Artist's Prompt: how to compose a precise prompt for image generation
"Artist's Prompt" is a text tool that turns your idea into a structured description for image generation. It does not draw pictures, it creates a prompt: composition, lighting, palette and exclusions. In this article we will go through working with three form fields, what to look for in the ready text and how to fix typical shortcomings. All examples are fictional and provided only for illustration.

"Artist's Prompt" is a web form with three text fields: "Your text or idea", "Tone, style or format" and "Output format". You fill them in, select the output language, press the Generate button and get one text result in a separate panel. The result can be copied or downloaded as a plain TXT file. There are no style presets, sliders or levels of changes in the interface — all control is done through text.
The tool does not generate images, audio or video, does not save history, does not require registration and has no integrations. It is important to understand: the output you get is only text, which can then be inserted into a visualization system. Prompt quality is evaluated by how fully and unambiguously it describes the future image.
Input limits: first field up to 8000 characters, details field up to 1000 characters. Model responses may contain errors, and queue and service availability may vary. Therefore checking the result is a mandatory step, not a formality.
Filling example: input — "quiet bookstore on a rainy evening, warm light in windows"; style — "calm, atmospheric, cinematic"; format — "detailed prompt in Russian".
Four mandatory components of a good prompt
Composition answers the question, what is where. The prompt should indicate the location of objects, their size and angle. For example: "small bookstore on the corner of the street, first floor, large display window". Without composition the image generator will guess, and the result may be far from the intent.
Lighting describes the source, character and direction of light. This can be "warm lamp inside", "soft light from window", "twilight sky". Palette sets the main colors and their combinations: "warm yellow, deep blue, gray". Exclusions list what should not be in the image: "no people, no machines, no bright signs".
If even one of the four components is missing, the prompt may give an unexpected result. For example, without exclusions the generator may add people, animals or extra signs. Check for the presence of all four blocks before using the text.
Check example: the prompt must indicate that the store is on the first floor, the windows glow with warm yellow light, it is raining outside and it is twilight, and in the exclusions — "no people, no machines, no bright signs".
Evaluation criteria: accuracy, completeness, suitability
Accuracy means the prompt does not distort your idea. If you asked for "quiet bookstore" but the text appeared "busy square" or "bright day", that is an error. Check that key objects, their location and time of day are preserved. The tool may add details, but they must not contradict the original intent.
Completeness is the presence of all four mandatory components: composition, lighting, palette and exclusions. If at least one item is missing, the prompt may give an unexpected result. For example, without exclusions the generator may add people, animals or extra signs.
Suitability is ease of use. The prompt should be written in clear language, without internal contradictions and unnecessary abstractions. If there are phrases like "make it beautiful" or "like in cinema", it is better to replace them with specific descriptions. A suitable prompt can be immediately copied into the image generator without additional editing.
Compare two prompts: "bookstore, rain, evening" and "small bookstore on the corner, first floor, display window, warm lamp light, wet asphalt, twilight, palette: yellow, blue, gray, no people and machines". The second is clearly more complete.
Breakdown of a fictional example: bookstore in a rainy evening
Suppose you entered the idea: "Quiet bookstore on a rainy evening, warm light in windows". The tool generated a prompt: "Small bookstore on the corner of the street, first floor, large display window. Inside a warm lamp burns, light softly falls on the bookshelves. Outside it is raining, wet asphalt reflects light from the windows. The sky is gray-blue, twilight. Palette: warm yellow, deep blue, gray. Exclude: people, machines, bright signs, snow". This is a good result: there is composition, lighting, palette and exclusions.
However, check that nothing important is omitted. For example, it is not indicated that the bookstore is "quiet" — this is conveyed by the absence of people and a calm atmosphere. If this is important to you, add it to the original text. The tool does not guess for you, it follows your wording.
Another point: output format. If you selected "brief prompt", the result will be shorter and may not contain all details. For a full assessment choose the detailed format. Remember that the tool does not guarantee that the image generator will understand the prompt perfectly, but the more specific the description, the higher the chances.
Instead of "bookstore" write: "small bookstore on the corner, first floor, display window, inside warm light, outside rain, twilight, palette: yellow, blue, gray, no people and machines".
How to check the result step by step
Step 1: read the prompt and identify four blocks — composition, lighting, palette, exclusions. If any block is missing, this is a reason to return to the input and clarify the original data.
Step 2: check for contradictions. For example, "bright sunny day" and "warm light in windows" may conflict if the time of day is not specified.
Step 5: check exclusions. They should be realistic and not contradict the main description. For example, if you exclude people but ask for a "busy street", this is a conflict. Exclusions help avoid unwanted elements, but they do not replace precise description.
Checklist: 1) Is there composition? 2) Is there lighting? 3) Is there palette? 4) Are there exclusions? 5) Are there no contradictions? 6) Can it be used immediately?
Typical errors and tool limitations
The tool is not an image generator, so you will not see a picture. It also does not check the prompt for visual feasibility. For example, you may request "impossible angle" or "day and night simultaneously" — the tool will output text, but the image generator may not cope. This is a limitation, not an error.
Another error — overloading the prompt with details. Too long a description may confuse the generator. The tool has input length limits: first field up to 8000 characters, details field up to 1000 characters. This is enough for most tasks, but if you write a lot, part may be cut off.
Do not expect the tool to add a style you did not specify. If you want "watercolor style" or "cyberpunk", you need to explicitly write it in the "Tone, style or format" field. The tool has no presets and does not guess your preferences. Also it does not save history, so copy the result immediately.
Error example: a user requests "bookstore, but no rain" and simultaneously "rainy evening". The tool may output a contradictory prompt. It is better to decide on the weather first.
How to improve the original request for a better result
To get a quality prompt, formulate the idea specifically. Instead of "beautiful store" write "small bookstore with a display window, warm light, evening, rain". The more details you give at input, the fuller the result. Use the "Tone, style or format" field to set the general mood: "calm", "cinematic", "minimalist".
If you are not sure what exclusions to add, think about what definitely should not appear in the picture. For a cityscape it can be "people, machines, advertising signs". For nature — "buildings, roads, equipment". Exclusions help narrow the space of possible variants.
Check the result immediately after generation. If the prompt is incomplete, change the original text and generate again. The tool has no limits on the number of attempts, but queue and availability may vary. Do not be afraid to experiment with formulations until you get a text that fully reflects your intent.
Instead of "bookstore" write: "small bookstore on the corner, first floor, display window, inside warm light, outside rain, twilight, palette: yellow, blue, gray, no people and machines".
Assessing prompt quality is a skill that comes with practice. Use four criteria: composition, lighting, palette, exclusions. Check accuracy, completeness and suitability. Remember that the "Artist's Prompt" tool creates only text and does not guarantee an ideal result in the image generator.
