Text from image: how to get an accurate transcription

The 'Text from image' tool converts visible printed and handwritten text into the original language, marking unreadable fragments. It is not an editor or a translator: you get a text output that can be copied or downloaded as TXT. This guide will cover how to prepare the image, check the result and fix typical errors to get text ready for further use.

Preparing the image before loading

Recognition quality directly depends on the source image. Make sure the text takes up most of the frame, lines are arranged horizontally, and the contrast between letters and the background is sufficient. If the photo was taken at an angle or with blur, the tool may mark more fragments as unreadable.

The file must not be larger than 4 MB. If the image is too large, crop unnecessary areas or reduce the resolution while keeping characters readable. Do not aggressively increase sharpness: artifacts may worsen recognition.

For handwritten text, uniform lighting is especially important. Shadows and glare create false contours that the tool perceives as letter elements. Photograph the document in diffused light, without flash.

Instead of a photo of a page on a dark table, take a picture in daylight, placing the sheet on a flat light surface.

Launch and initial evaluation of the result

Enter an instruction in the field 'Your text or idea'. Clearly specify that you need to transcribe text without translation. For example: 'Extract all visible text from the image, keep the original language, mark unreadable fragments.' Press 'Generate' and wait for the answer in a separate panel.

The first result is a draft. Compare it with the image: check if the language is preserved, if unreadable fragment markers are in place, if digits and special characters are recognized correctly. If the text is long, divide it into meaning blocks and check consecutively.

Copy the obtained text into any text editor. The interface has no built-in editor, so it is more convenient to make all edits in an external program, saving intermediate versions.

Instruction: 'Transcribe all visible text from this image in the original language. Mark unreadable parts.'

Fixing recognition errors

Most often the tool confuses similar characters: '0' and 'O', '1' and 'l', 'З' and '3'. In handwritten text, errors are possible due to letters being written together. Check every questionable word and compare with the image. If a character is unreadable, leave the tool's marker or replace it with '[?]'.

Pay special attention to numbers, dates and sums. One wrong digit changes the meaning. Check every digit against the original, enlarge the image fragment if necessary. Do not guess an unreadable word if the context does not give an unambiguous answer: it is better to leave a marker than to enter incorrect data.

If the tool marks a fragment as unreadable but you can decipher it, write the correct version. If not — leave a marker without changes.

The tool recognized 'Amount: 1500 rub.' as 'Amount: 1500 py6.' — correct 'py6.' to 'rub.'.

Restoring text structure

The tool outputs text as a continuous stream, without breaking into paragraphs, lists or tables. If the original image contains structured text, restore formatting manually. Divide the text into paragraphs according to the original, for lists use markers or numbering.

Headers highlighted in bold or larger font in the recognized text are not distinguished from the main text. Highlight them yourself, for example, with empty lines before and after. This will help preserve the logical hierarchy.

If the text contains a table, convert it to a text format with separators (commas or tabs). Remember: the tool does not recognize tables as a structure, so all cells will follow one after another. Column borders will have to be determined manually.

Original image: 'Product Price Quantity\nApples 100 5\nPears 150 3'. After recognition: 'Product Price Quantity Apples 100 5 Pears 150 3'. Manually add line breaks.

Working with unreadable fragments

The tool marks unreadable fragments with special characters, for example, '[unreadable]' or '???'. Do not ignore these markers. If the fragment is important for understanding, try to improve the image: increase contrast, crop unnecessary parts, increase sharpness. Then upload the corrected image again.

If after a repeated attempt the text is still not readable, accept this as a limitation. In the finished material replace the marker with a comment, for example, '[text unreadable]'. If you are working with a historical document, indicate this in a note. Do not delete markers without replacement — this may distort the meaning.

The tool does not restore damaged text and does not guess the content. It only transcribes what it sees. If characters are erased or smudged, they will remain unreadable.

In a photo of a handwritten note the word 'meeting' is written unreadably. The tool gave '[?] at 15:00'. You can replace it with '[unreadable] at 15:00'.

Language check and special characters

The tool preserves the original language of the text, but sometimes may confuse similar languages (for example, Russian and Ukrainian, English and German). Check if the recognized text corresponds to the language of the original. If not, correct characters specific to the language.

Special characters (mathematical signs, currencies, diacritical marks) may be recognized incorrectly. Check each such character. If the tool replaced '€' with 'E', correct it. For diacritics (for example, in Spanish or French) make sure all accents are in place.

If the text contains a mix of languages, the tool may try to unify it, which will lead to errors. In such a case check every word for correspondence to the original. Do not rely on automatic language detection — always compare with the image.

The tool recognized 'Café' as 'Cafe'. Add the accent: 'Café'.

Final proofreading and saving

After making edits read the entire text carefully. Make sure there are no missing words, logical breaks and random repeats. Check that all markers about unreadable fragments are in place and understandable. If you plan to use the text for publication, perhaps additional stylistic editing will be required, but this is beyond the recognition task.

Save the ready text in TXT format using the download button in the interface. The tool does not support export to DOCX or PDF, so TXT is the only option. If you need another format, copy the text and paste it into the corresponding editor.

Remember that the tool does not save generation history. If you close the page, the result may be lost. Therefore always download or copy the text immediately after finishing work. Do not rely on automatic saving — it does not exist.

After proofreading the text is ready: 'Dear client! Your order #1234 is ready for issuance. [unreadable] until 18:00.' Save it as TXT.

Editing recognized text is manual work requiring attention. The 'Text from image' tool gives a rough result that can be improved by following our tips. Remember the limitations: no translation, no formatting, no history. Always check the text and save it as TXT. Use the tool as an auxiliary means, not as a ready-made solution.
