Clean Text: How to Correct Errors and Preserve the Author's Voice
Clean Text is an AI tool for correcting spelling and punctuation. It does not rewrite content or change style unless requested. In this article, we will examine how to properly set the task, what errors occur in the source data, and how to check the result so that it matches your intent.
Open tool: AI proofreader ↗What Exactly Clean Text Does
The tool accepts text or an idea in the first field (up to 8000 characters) and additional instructions in the second field (up to 1000 characters). The second field describes tone, style, or format. For example, you can ask to preserve a business tone or conversational speech.
As output, you receive one result in a separate panel. It can be copied or downloaded as a plain text file TXT. The tool does not create DOCX or PDF, does not perform batch processing, and does not save history automatically. This is important to consider when working with large volumes.
Input: "We has a small shop. There are three new products." Output: "We have a small shop. There are three new products."
Typical Errors in Source Data
The first common mistake is mixing languages in one text without specifying the output language. The tool may correct Russian words but leave English ones as they are. If translation is needed, that is a different task.
The second mistake is typos in proper names and titles. AI may "correct" a surname or brand, considering them an error. Always check such places manually.
The third mistake is lack of context. The phrase "execute cannot pardon" without a comma may be corrected differently from what you intended. If the meaning depends on a punctuation mark, it is better to specify this in the second field.
Input: "He went to the store to buy bread milk and cheese" Output: "He went to the store to buy bread, milk, and cheese."
Ambiguous Requirements and How to Clarify Them
The second field does not have ready-made presets or sliders. Everything you write is a plain text instruction. If you write simply "fix," the tool may limit itself to spelling but not touch punctuation.
To get a predictable result, specify concretely: "fix only spelling," "add commas but do not change word order," "preserve conversational style." The clearer the instruction, the fewer edits you will have to make manually.
If you are unsure about the wording, start with a simple request. Then refine the requirements in the second field and generate the result again. The tool does not remember previous requests, so each clarification must be entered in full.
Request: "Fix only punctuation, do not touch spelling." Input: "He said he would come late" Output: "He said, he would come late."
How to Fix an Unsuccessful Result
If the result does not suit you, do not try to edit it manually in the panel — there is no comparison mode or highlighting of changes. It is better to return to the source text and change the instruction.
For example, if the tool replaced an author's word with a synonym, add in the second field: "do not change vocabulary unnecessarily." If it split a long sentence into several short ones, write: "preserve sentence length."
Remember that the model can make mistakes. Always reread the final text. This is especially true for texts where legal or medical wording is important. The tool does not provide guarantees and does not replace professional proofreading.
Input: "We would like to inform you that your order has been sent." Unsuccessful output: "We inform you that the order has been sent." Clarification: "Preserve the polite form." Successful output: "We would like to inform you that your order has been sent."
Checking the Result: What to Look At
First check the meaning: has it changed after correction. Then — punctuation in complex places: introductory words, homogeneous members, direct speech. And only then — spelling, if that was the goal.
Pay attention to names, numbers, and dates. AI may accidentally correct "2024" to "2023" or change a company name. Verify these fragments against the source.
If the text is long, break it into parts of 8000 characters. The tool does not support batch processing, so each part must be entered separately. Save the results manually, as there is no autosave.
Source: "Ivanov I.I. was born in 1980." Check that after correction it remains "1980," not "1981."
Tool Limitations
Clean Text does not work with DOCX, PDF, and does not perform OCR. It does not highlight changes or show a before/after comparison. There is no registration, premium plan, or integrations with other services.
The tool does not generate images, audio, or video. Vector images are available only in SVG and PNG formats, but this is not related to the proofreading task. Speech synthesis works via eSpeak and is saved in WAV, but this is a separate function not related to text correction.
The queue and availability may vary. The model sometimes makes mistakes. If you need guaranteed accuracy, use the tool as a draft assistant, not as the sole source of edits.
Do not try to upload a Word document — the field accepts only text. Copy the content manually.
Clean Text helps quickly correct spelling and punctuation if you give clear instructions and check the result. It does not rewrite text without a request and does not replace a professional editor. Use it for draft proofreading, but always keep the final decision to yourself. Remember that this is only an example scenario, not a guarantee of a specific result.
