Resume Builder: Polishing a Draft into a Finished Document
The Fact-based Resume tool helps transform your real experience and skills into structured resume text. It does not add non-existent achievements or invent qualifications. However, the first generated version is only a draft. In this article, we will break down how to improve the result step by step: verify facts, refine phrasing, add important details, and prepare the final document. You will learn which fields to fill out, how to evaluate the output, and what to look out for so that the resume remains honest and compelling.
Open tool: Resume builder ↗How the Tool Works and What It Does Not Do
"Fact-based Resume" is a web form with text fields. You input source material (experience, skills, education) and specify a role or character for whom the resume is being written. Then you select the output language and press the Generate button. The result appears in a separate panel as plain text. You can copy it or download it in TXT format. The tool does not automatically save data, does not support DOCX or PDF export, does not perform batch processing, and has no integrations.
Understanding the limitations is important: the tool does not check spelling or highlight changes. It cannot upload documents, perform OCR from images, or send resumes by email. All it does is generate text based on your input. If you provide unreliable information, it will end up in the resume. Therefore, the key task is to provide accurate source data and then carefully check the result.
The maximum length of the first field is 8,000 characters, and the second is 1,000 characters. This is enough to describe several jobs, duties, and key skills. If there is more information, it is better to reduce it to the most important or split it into several generations. Remember that the model may make mistakes, and service availability may change.
Example of filling out: in the Source material field you write: "Worked as a sales consultant in a retail store for two years. Duties included: checking product availability, answering customer questions, working with the cash register. Basic Excel." In the Role or characters field: "Sales consultant." Output language: Russian.
Fact-Checking and Removing the Extraneous
After generation, first compare every statement in the resume with your source text. The tool should not add anything you did not specify. If phrases like "increased sales by 30%" or "managed a team of 5 people" appear, but you did not write them, delete them. The resume should reflect only real experience. Also check job titles, company names, and dates — they must match your data.
Pay attention to skill formulations. For example, if you wrote "basic Excel", the tool might turn it into "proficient in Excel". This is a distortion. Replace it with the original version. If the resume contains generic phrases ("communicative", "responsible"), think about whether they are confirmed by your experience. It is better to replace them with specific examples: "daily consultation of up to 20 customers."
Remove everything that is unrelated or looks like an invention. The tool does not guarantee accuracy — this is your task. The more accurate the source data, the fewer edits will be required.
After generation you see: "Increased sales by 30% due to active sales." This was not in the source data. You delete this line. Instead you can write: "Actively consulted customers, helping them choose the product."
Refining Phrasing for a Specific Vacancy
The first result is often generic. To make the resume sound convincing, adapt it for a specific position. Highlight the key requirements from the job description and see which ones are confirmed by your experience. Then rephrase the corresponding points of the resume, using terms from the vacancy, but without distorting facts.
For example, if the vacancy requires "working with a large volume of information", and you wrote "checking product availability", you can refine it to: "daily checking of over 100 product names". This specifies the skill and shows the scale. If the vacancy mentions "customer service", replace "answers to customer questions" with "consulting customers on the assortment and helping them choose". The main rule — do not assign yourself what you did not have.
Do not add skills you do not have. If the vacancy requires Python, and you did not program, do not include it in the resume. Better to focus on what you have and present it advantageously.
Vacancy: "Sales consultant, experience with cash register and Excel knowledge required." In the resume after editing: "Work with cash register, maintaining reports in Excel (basic level)."
Adding Specifics and Numbers
The resume becomes stronger when it contains measurable results. The tool cannot invent them, but you can add them manually. Review each point and think about what numbers or facts confirm it. For example, how many customers did you serve a day? How many product positions did you check? What volume of reports did you handle?
If exact numbers are not available, use approximate, but honest formulations: "about 50 customers a day", "more than 200 items". Do not exaggerate. Better modest but truthful. Numbers attract the attention of recruiters and show your contribution.
Also add names of tools and programs you worked with. If you used 1C, Excel, Google Sheets — indicate this. Specificity increases trust.
Was: "Work with cash register." Became: "Daily conducted up to 80 cash register operations, worked with 1C:Retail."
Structure and Text Formatting
The tool outputs plain text without formatting. You can independently structure it: divide into blocks "Work Experience", "Education", "Skills". Use capital letters for headings and empty lines for separation. Do not apply complex formatting, as the downloaded TXT will not preserve fonts and colors.
Make the resume convenient for reading: start with contacts (name, phone, email), then a brief summary (2-3 sentences), then experience in reverse chronological order, education and skills. At each job position indicate the position, company, period and 3-5 duties with focus on achievements.
Check that there are no long paragraphs. Recruiters review resumes quickly, so use bullet lists. In TXT you can use dashes or asterisks.

Final Check and Saving
Before saving read the resume aloud. This will help you notice clumsy phrases and repetitions. Make sure all facts correspond to reality. Check spelling and punctuation manually, as the tool does not have built-in proofreading. If you doubt a formulation, simplify it.
Download the file in TXT format. If you need to send the resume in another format, copy the text into a text editor and save as PDF or DOCX yourself. The tool does not support export to these formats. Remember that the service does not save your data, so keep the source files separately.
Remember that the generated text is only a foundation. Your task is to bring it to a finished document reflecting exactly your experience. Do not rely on automation blindly.
After all edits you copy the text into Word, add contacts and save as PDF for sending to the employer.
The Fact-based Resume tool speeds up creating a draft, but does not replace your attentiveness. Check every point, add specifics, adapt to the vacancy and structure the text. Thus you will get an honest and convincing resume that will help in job search. Remember the limitations: no automatic saving, no DOCX/PDF export and no spelling check. All edits are done manually. Good luck!
