Detective Room: how to lead a fictional riddle

«Detective Room» is a tool for conducting a fictional detective story: it gives clues, leads dialogue and asks the player to choose the next action. Unlike ready-made quests, here you manage the plot through textual requests. In this article we will examine how to formulate input data, check puzzle logic and polish the result. The tool works as a chat: you write text, it replies. It is important to understand that this is not an image generator and not a speech synthesizer — text only. All examples are fictional and provided for illustration.

How the tool works and what it accepts

«Detective Room» is a web form with two text fields: «Your text or idea» and «Audience or experience level». The first field accepts up to 8000 characters, the second up to 1000. You choose the output language, press «Generate» and get one result in a separate panel. The result can be copied or downloaded as a plain text TXT file. No sliders, style presets or change levels — just text.

The tool does not generate images, audio or video. If you need illustrations, they can be created separately, but not in this tool. It also does not automatically save history, has no integrations and does not support batch processing. All you will get is a text response, which you can use as a basis for the game.

Important: the model may make mistakes, and the queue and availability may change. Therefore you should not rely on a single result — it is better to generate several variants and choose the most suitable one.

Field «Your text or idea»: «Start a cozy detective story at a small railway station. There are three suspects: the station master, a young ticket seller and an old driver. Hidden item — a silver cigar case. The player must find it by asking questions.» Field «Audience»: «Beginners, 12+.»

How to change input data to get different variants

The simplest way to get different variants is to change details in the first field. For example, replace the setting: instead of a railway station try an old library, a night train or a snow-covered hotel. Even one new detail can lead to a different clue structure and a different set of suspects.

The second way is to change the audience. If you specify «children 8–10 years», the tool may simplify the language and make clues more explicit. For «adults who love tangled stories» it will add more false leads. This does not guarantee a radically different plot, but affects the presentation.

The third way is to add constraints. For example, «no violence in the story» or «all clues must be logical, no mysticism». The more specific the request, the more predictable the result. But remember: the tool does not read minds — it follows the text.

Variant 1: «Small railway station, stolen silver cigar case». Variant 2: «Old library, rare book missing». Variant 3: «Night train, disappeared letter box». Compare how suspects and clues change.

Comparing three variants: what to look for

When you have three different results, compare them by several criteria. First — logic: do all clues lead to one solution? Are there contradictions? Second — engagement: do you want to ask further questions? Third — audience match: is the language understandable, are there unnecessary difficulties?

Pay attention to how the tool asks for the next action. A good variant clearly formulates: «What will you do?» or «Where will you go?»? If the question is vague, the player may get lost. Also check that the tool does not reveal the solution too early.

Do not compare variants by length or «beauty» of the text — this is subjective. Better evaluate how easy it will be for you to run the game based on this answer. If you got confused just reading, the player will get confused too.

Variant A: clues are scattered, but the solution is logical. Variant B: many false leads, but the finale is predictable. Variant C: short, but all clues are in place. Choose the one that matches your experience and time.

Selection and polish: how to improve the result

After comparing choose one variant. But do not rush to use it as is. The tool gives a basis, and you can polish details: add names, clarify motives, rewrite questions. For this copy the text into any editor and make manual edits.

If you want the tool itself to polish the story, send it a refining request. For example: «Add a clue that points to the ticket seller but does not directly reveal her guilt». Or: «Make it so each suspect has a motive». The tool will reply with new text, which you can edit again.

Remember that the tool does not save previous versions. If you want to go back to an old variant, save it manually. Also do not ask it for things it cannot do: generate images, synthesize speech or create PDF.

After choosing a variant you write: «Add another suspect — a janitor. She saw someone pass by the cash desk but did not see the faces». The tool includes this detail in the next response.

How to check honesty and sequence of the riddle

A fair riddle is when all clues logically lead to one solution, and the player can figure it out without guessing. To check this, go through the clues yourself: write them down and see if they combine into one picture. If some clue contradicts another, ask the tool to fix it.

Also check that new details do not appear «from nowhere». For example, if at the beginning it is said that only three people are at the station, and at the end a fourth appears without explanation, this breaks the logic. In this case send a correction request: «Remove contradiction: at the beginning there were three, now there are four».

Finally, make sure the solution is not revealed in the first few lines. A good riddle must keep the intrigue until the end. If the tool immediately says who is guilty, ask it to rewrite so that guilt becomes clear only after several questions.

You check: clue 1 — «cigar case lay in the cash desk»; clue 2 — «ticket seller was alone in the cash desk»; clue 3 — «station master did not enter the cash desk». Conclusion: ticket seller. Logical.

Tool limitations and typical errors

The tool is not a professional editor or game generator. It may make mistakes, repeat itself or suggest illogical moves. Do not use it for creating commercial products without verification. Also it does not support document uploads, OCR, integrations and automatic saving.

Another limitation — volume. The first field accepts up to 8000 characters, the second up to 1000. If you exceed the limit, the form will not send. Speech is not generated, images are not created. All you will get is text.

Do not ask the tool for things it cannot do: generate photorealistic images, synthesize speech or create video. This is not part of its functions. If you need such capabilities, use other services.

Attempt to request: «Generate a station picture» — will not work. The tool will reply text, but will not create an image.

«Detective Room» is a text assistant for creating fictional detective stories. To get different variants, change the input data: place, audience, constraints. Compare results by logic and engagement, choose the best and polish manually or with refining requests. Remember the limitations: the tool does not generate images, audio and video, does not save history automatically, has no integrations and may make mistakes. Use it as a basis for creativity, but always check logic and sequence. Examples in the article are fictional and provided for illustration.
