PRACTICAL GUIDE

Find a tractor for your work

Explore catalog specifications, estimate costs and prepare questions before you buy.

Start searching ↓

01 / FIND

Search by your requirements

Use minimum engine and PTO power from the catalog. Models without an unambiguous numeric value are excluded when a threshold is set. The task filter uses broad tractor classes and does not confirm suitability. Area is used only to estimate time from the productivity you enter.

Check the implement, soil and tractor suitability for yourself. Compare power figures only after checking their measurement standards, market and configuration. Catalog prices and verified implement matches are incomplete.

02 / COMPARE

Compare two models

Each available specification links to its source. A dash means no verified value is in the catalog.

VERIFIED COMPATIBILITY

Check implement examples

This small selection is based on manufacturer documents and is not exhaustive. It applies only to the market and conditions shown. Confirm the model year, configuration and implement requirements with your dealer.

No result means this selection does not contain a verified example; it does not establish incompatibility.

03 / CALCULATOR

Estimate operating costs

Enter your own yearly estimates. Purchase, depreciation and tax are excluded unless included in other costs.

Example inputs are not specifications for any model. Results use the currency of your entered prices.

MANUALS AND SUPPORT

Find manufacturer documentation

Confirm the model, market, year and serial number. These are manufacturer support entry points, not a guarantee that a free manual exists for every model. Registration or dealer assistance may be required.

04 / GUIDE

From selection to maintenance

Choosing a tractor

Start with your heaviest implement, terrain, soil, clearance and required productivity. Check its PTO, hitch, hydraulic and weight requirements against the tractor. Ask the dealer to confirm the configuration and demonstrate the machine.

Engine and PTO power

Engine and power take-off ratings are measured at different points and are not interchangeable. Match powered equipment to its manufacturer's PTO requirements, and compare like measurement standards.

Transmission and drive

Manual transmissions offer fixed gears; hydrostatic drive is useful for frequent speed and direction changes; continuously variable transmissions change ratio smoothly. Four-wheel drive may help traction but does not replace appropriate tyres and ballast.

Buying used

Check documents, serial number, service history and hours. Inspect tyres, leaks, guards and mounting points; request a cold start and demonstration of the transmission, hydraulics and PTO. Check parts availability and repair costs.

Penn State Extension ↗

Implements

Ploughs and tillers prepare soil; mowers cut vegetation; loaders move material; spreaders apply material. Check hitch category and capacity, PTO speed and power, hydraulic connections, weight and ballast with the equipment manufacturer.

Kubota attachment safety ↗

Service and manuals

Check fluids, tyres, leaks, fasteners and guards regularly. Intervals and materials vary by model: use the operator's manual for the exact serial number and market. Stop the engine and equipment before inspection.

John Deere 1025R documents
