Define a manageable task
Choose an action such as outlining one section or checking a paragraph’s sources. A clear task makes it easier to resume if you are interrupted.
The Pomodoro tool provides a local 25-minute timer with start, pause or resume, and reset. It does not automatically schedule a sequence of breaks.
- Choose one task.
- Write the intended result.
- Start the timer.
Work and pause deliberately
Keep the source material you need nearby and avoid adding unrelated tasks. If an interruption requires attention, pause and leave a short note about the next step.
Resume when you are ready to continue, or reset when beginning a new session. Choose the action intentionally rather than treating elapsed time as completed work.
- Work on the chosen task.
- Pause for an interruption.
- Resume from a clear next step.
Review the result
At the end, check what you actually produced. Note unfinished work and plan a break or another task yourself.
Browser background behavior can delay display updates. Use a separate clock when precise or critical timing matters.
- Review the written result.
- Record the next action.
- Plan your own break.
Worked example
Task: improve the opening paragraph of a draft.
Session result: a revised opening and one note about a fact that still needs checking.
The example measures useful output, not a guaranteed amount of productivity.
Before you finish
- One concrete task selected.
- Needed sources available.
- Next action recorded.
- Break planned separately.
